Darien Gymnasts Stand Tall at Mass. Meet

DARIEN, Conn. — Several Darien Y travel team gymnasts finished in the top four of the individual standings at the Starlight Invitational in Cambridge, Mass. The event drew athletes from 29 gyms from Connecticut and other states in the region.

Compulsory Level 5 gymnast Elena Savas placed third in the senior division with a 35.2 overall score, including a second place on floor with a 9.55.

Nikki Carlo finished second in the Level 6 child division with a 36.5, while taking first on beam (9.5). Her teammate, Kellie Arevalo, took fourth overall with a 35.875 in the junior division, including a first on beam (9.4).

Optional Level 7 gymnast Samantha Gunn took third in the senior division, finishing with a 34.6 overall score and second on bars (8.825).

Christina Crowell placed fourth in the Level 8 junior division, scoring an even 36 and placing second on floor (9.35). Senior Perry Kindel placed first with a 36.2, including first on bars (9.25).

Level 9 gymnast Stephanie Klokiw finished third with 33.225, including a third place vault (8.9).

The Darien Y gymnastics team is currently training for regional and national competitions.
