Darien Sailor Crane Wraps Up Olympic Experience

DARIEN, Conn. – Darien resident and Olympic sailor Rob Crane wrapped up his London 2012 experience on Saturday, competing in his final two events in men's Laser sailing.

Crane finished 29th overall after finishing 33rd and 44th in the ninth and 10th races of the 10-race competition. Crane's best finish of the competition was eighth place in the eighth race on Friday.

“It’s an incredible experience to come to the Olympics and represent the U.S.,” said Crane in a press release. “I think I’ve worked as hard as I can. I’m not too happy with the end result, but I definitely put in a lot of work.”

Sailors compete in 10 races and are scored on how they finished. The worst finish is thrown out, and the sailor with the lowest score at the end of 10 races is the winner.

Crane finished with 236 net points.

Tom Slingsby of Australia has a firm grasp on the gold heading into the medal round with 25 net points. The top 10 sailors in the Olympic standings compete in the medal round.
