The Darien sixth-grade travel A team moved to 3-1 on the season with a convincing win over Westport on Sunday, 49-34. Darien relied on a dominant rebounding and defensive edge to overcome its poor shooting percentage. Jackson Ryan connected on 4-of-5 from 3-point range, while Carter Scott led the team with five assists and connected on a 3-pointer.
Casey Brown (10 rebounds), Charlie Wright (nine), Jack Farren (seven) and Cord Fox (six) dominated the backboards. Joe Hardison and Will Stevens brought the defensive intensity that sparked a suffocating full-court press. That duo pressured the ball, and their teammates swooped in for the steals. Charlie Sealy led that stat category with four.
After allowing only one Westport basket in the second quarter, Coach Derek Sellers showed his players' sportsmanship by calling off the full-court press in the second half.
