Darien Softball Posts Dramatic Win

Darien High's softball team stayed in contention for the No. 1 seed in the upcoming Fairfield County Interscholastic Athletic Conference playoffs with a dramatic 3-2 win over St. Joseph on Monday.

Darien (13-1 overall, 12-1 FCIAC) rallied from a 2-0 deficit to stun the Cadets (11-4, 10-3).

The Blue Wave scored one in the fifth and one in the sixth to tie the contest entering the seventh. Olivia Gozdz (four-for-four) doubled to lead off the bottom of the inning. Courtney Bell's sacrifice fly moved Gozdz to third. After two walks to load the bases, the St. Joseph pitcher walked Julia Domiziano to force in the winning run.

Jessica DeMaio picked up the victory for Darien, which has won 10 straight since losing to New Canaan, 5-4, on April 11. The Blue Wave meet Brien McMahon on Wednesday and Danbury on Thursday before meeting undefeated Westhill on May 16 at Darien. Westhill is currently the top team in the race for the No. 1 seed for the FCIAC tournament.
