Darien Y Gymnasts Place First in Glastonbury

DARIEN, Conn. – The Darien Y Gymnastics Level 5 travel team finished first at the FUNomenal Flippers Invite in Glastonbury. The squad of 20 competed against eight teams from Connecticut, Massachusetts and New York.

Fiona Brock finished first in the 13-year-old division, scoring 36.2 points in the all-around standings. Aisling Brock finished third with 35.2.

Twelve-year-old Toni Cardini took first on the beam with 9.2 and on the floor with 9.45, while Emman Hnton finished first on bars with a 9.4. All three performances resulted in team-high scores during the meet.

Eleven-year-olds Wren Steward and Alexandra Nason finished third and fourth in the all-around competition, with scores of 34.75 and 34.65, respectively. Elena Savas took first on floor with 9.4, and Jane Ogden delivered a 9.0 on floor.

Ten-year-old Annsley Martin placed first in her age division with an all-around score of 35.7. Emma Hunter finished first on beam with a 9.0. MacKenzie Biele placed third on beam with 8.8, Gianna Cardini came in fifth with 8.7 and Lucy Holzinger came in sixth with 8.7. Kaitlyn Moussignac placed fourth on vault with 8.4, and Maeve DeGulis finished 13th on vault with 7.9. Dorothy Browning finished eighth on floor with 9.0.

In the 9-year-old division, Lana Schmidt came in seventh with a score of 28.9, Stella Kamensky finished eighth with 26.35, Octavia Molkenthin was ninth with 26.2 and Tess Keating finished 10th with 26.2.

Led by coaches Vladamir Kovelenko, Valentina Kovelenko, Yury Vasilyev and Antoniana Surmenko, the travel team will compete next at the Gymnastics Revolution Team Challenge at Western State Connecticut College in Danbury.
