DARIEN, Conn. ? The following are recaps of recent Darien Youth Hockey Association games.


Darien A1 Atlantic Trust 3, Hamden A 2

Atlantic Trust Private Wealth Management skated to victory against Hamden A. Both squads came out fighting, but Will Dickson went unassisted to break the 0-0 tie in the first period. Peyton Knauf and Will Culliton provided amazing back-checking and kept strong pressure in the offensive zone. Reid Budd netted a top shelf goal in the second giving Darien the 2-0 lead. Hamden skated harder and Charlie Weaver, Brett Raker and Austin Propper moved the puck up the boards stifling any scoring attempts. Hamden sunk one on a breakaway giving Darien a one-goal cushion. Will Johnston stuffed a pass from Connor McCarthy for the insurance goal, but Hamden applied yet more pressure to come within one. Danny Frattaroli and CJ Hathaway fought for the puck at the point, and Jeremy Toscano and Nick Saah shut down any offensive momentum Hamden hoped to gain. Anthony Cusano started the game with seven fantastic saves and was mimicked by seven saves from Bobby Leonard in the victory.

Bedford Bears 6, Darien PeeWee B 5

Darien took the early lead when Carr Noonan tipped in a Nick Cardone shot with 11:36 left in the 1st. Quentin Danielson made it 2-0 when he took a pass from Reese Gregory at the red line, raced down the ice and fired it in on a power play drawn by Ronan Flynn’s break. After three Bedford goals, Tighe Ekern tied the score, putting in a rebound of an Alexander Williams shot with 3:46 left in the second.  With 1:08 left in the second, Stephanie Lane put Darien up 4-3, skating the puck in and firing from the bottom of the left circle. Bedford scored three in the third.  With 8:41 left, Tommy Mullin brought Darien close with a blast from just inside the blue line. Darien pulled its goalie with a minute left, but Bedford's goalie stopped shots by Cardone and Ekern.  Goalie Will Capalbo kept Darien in the game with 34 saves.

House Mites

Darien Dental Care 13, Blue Wave Orthodontics 11

What a game! Back and forth action led to a close 13-11 victory for Darien Dental Care Kids. Thomas Cush stood tall in goal for DDK, stopping a barrage of shots late in the game by Blue Wave Orthodontics. DDK was led in scoring by Nolan Bryson and Jack McCloy, each netting three goals. William Harper and George Foster found the back of the net twice as well, with additional goals by Colin Bresnahan and Remy Cush. Blue Wave was kept in the game by Duke Hagen between the pipes and several goals by Christian Maro, Liam Power and Vaughn Slatoff. Both teams fought hard for loose pucks, kept up the crisp passing and kept the goalies ready for action.

U-12 Girls Travel

Darien A Ice Cats 1,  Sound Shore U-14 0

It was an excellent showing by the Ice Cats U12 A team against the Sound Shore Warriors U14s. Claire Parry was in net for the shutout during the hard-played game. Meghan Keating scored in the third period on an assist from Lily Von Stade.

Darien A Ice Cats 4, CT Polar Bears 0

The Darien U12 A team showed up strong, despite the weather and unexpected snow over the weekend. Emily Gianunzio had a shutout in net, while great passing by Corinne Bevill, Brooke Deane, Mimi Pastor and Layne McKeown lead the way in the win. A first period solo goal by Gianna Bruno started the scoring. Meghan Keating and Stephanie Walsh continued the excellent back-checking throughout the second period, while Lily Von Stade added two goals and Sally Cassidy scored with an assist from Gianna Bruno.  Kiki Tropsa, Jennie Piotrzkowski, Reilly Reed, Courtney Lowe, Izzy Thelen and Mairead Ferguson played tough defense throughout to secure the victory.
