Darien Youth Hockey Association Action

DARIEN, Conn. ? The following are recaps of recent Darien Youth Hockey Association games.

PeeWee

Darien A1 Atlantic Trust 3, Hamden A 2

Atlantic Trust Private Wealth Management skated to victory against Hamden A. Both squads came out fighting, but Will Dickson went unassisted to break the 0-0 tie in the first period. Peyton Knauf and Will Culliton provided amazing back-checking and kept strong pressure in the offensive zone. Reid Budd netted a top shelf goal in the second giving Darien the 2-0 lead. Hamden skated harder and Charlie Weaver, Brett Raker and Austin Propper moved the puck up the boards stifling any scoring attempts. Hamden sunk one on a breakaway giving Darien a one-goal cushion. Will Johnston stuffed a pass from Connor McCarthy for the insurance goal, but Hamden applied yet more pressure to come within one. Danny Frattaroli and CJ Hathaway fought for the puck at the point, and Jeremy Toscano and Nick Saah shut down any offensive momentum Hamden hoped to gain. Anthony Cusano started the game with seven fantastic saves and was mimicked by seven saves from Bobby Leonard in the victory.

After three Bedford goals, Tighe Ekern tied the score, putting in a rebound of an Alexander Williams shot with 3:46 left in the second.  With 1:08 left in the second, Stephanie Lane put Darien up 4-3, skating the puck in and firing from the bottom of the left circle. Bedford scored three in the third.  With 8:41 left, Tommy Mullin brought Darien close with a blast from just inside the blue line. Darien pulled its goalie with a minute left, but Bedford's goalie stopped shots by Cardone and Ekern.  Goalie Will Capalbo kept Darien in the game with 34 saves.
