Darien Football Ranked 4th In State By MaxPreps

FAIRFIELD COUNTY, Conn. -- New Canaan moved into the top spot in the MaxPreps’ football rankings while Darien and Fairfield Prep also remained in the top 10 as the high school season hits the stretch drive.

The Rams (7-0) crushed St. Joseph, 41-14, as Frank Cognetta rushed for 200 yards and two touchdowns. Quarterback Mike Collins completed 10-of-20 passes for 204 yards and a touchdown. New Canaan’s defense limited the Cadets to 85 yards of total offense, including -5 passing.

Darien (8-0) ranked fourth by MaxPreps, beat Wilton on Saturday, 41-0, and Fairfield Prep, ranked seventh, crushed Amity, 42-6.

Brien McMahon (7-1) is ranked 17th while Trinity Catholic (5-3) is 28th and Danbury (6-2) is 30th.

New Canaan is also ranked No. 1 in the race for the Class L playoffs, while Darien is ranked third. Brien McMahon is ranked fourth in Class LL, Prep is ranked fifth and Danbury is ranked seventh.
