The meeting between Prep (19-2) and Westhill (22-1) might be the most highly anticipated game of the day. The Jesuits last won the state title in 1997, but have reached the Class LL final for the fourth time in five years. Prep lost to Hamden during the regular season and was pounded by Career Magnet, 82-58, in the Southern Connecticut Conference championship game.

Westhill (25-1) is playing in its first state title game. The Vikings, whose only loss is a 51-50 setback to Weston, are led by senior guard Jeremiah Livingston. He is averaging 26 points per game, and is regarded as one the best players in the state. Livingston had a season-high 40 points in Westhill's 64-60 win over Norwalk in the Fairfield County Interscholastic Athletic Conference title game.

Stamford High School won the state title in 1992, and Trinity Catholic of Stamford has won several state titles, the last coming in 2011.

Second-seeded Wilton (24-2) has rebounded from a 49-47 loss to Ridgefield in the semifinals of the FCIAC Tournament to reach the title contest. Wilton is seeking its first state title in girls basketball. The Warriors are led by a core of seniors -- Erika Meyer, Hayley English, Erin Cunningham,  Makenna Pearsall and Hannah Maatallah -- who have gone 80-19 over the past four years.

Top-seeded South Windsor (20-0) has escaped several close calls in the tournament, winning its last two games by three points.

Notre Dame of Fairfield (19-5) meets top-seeded Weaver (18-2) in the Class M final. The sixth-seeded Lancers (15-5) are playing their best basketball of the year and have been impressive in the state tournament, including a 74-59 win over third-seeded Granby. The Lancers are also seeking their first state title. It lost the 1980 title game to Pomperaug.

In hockey, Darien and Greenwich meet for the third time this season. The teams tied, 3-3, during the regular season. Darien won the rematch in the league championship game, 5-3. The Blue Wave are seeking their first title since 1969 and advanced to the final with a 3-1 win over Xavier in the semifinals.

Darien lost in the state title game last year to Fairfield Prep. Jack Pardue scored two goals and Riley Mullin added one in the semifinal win, while goalie Will Massie made 26 saves.

Greenwich, a perennial state contender, has won the previous two State Open titles. The Cardinals crushed their top rival, Fairfield Prep, by more than 300 points en route to the Class LL title.
