The game was played at Ingalls Rink at Yale University in New Haven.
Darien took a 1-0 lead in the first period on a goal by Rob Juterbock. The Blue Wave kept the lead into the third period, with no scoring in the second period by either team.
At 8:49 in the third period, Dean Lockery of Fairfield Prep tied up the game at 1-1, assisted by Ken Kockiss.
The Jesuits outshot Darien 36-10 in the first three periods, but the game remained tied at the of regulation play.
In sudden death, D'Amore scored, winning the game and championship for Prep. He was assisted by Ryan Deering.
Darien's Mike Colon in goal kept Prep from scoring for the first two periods and stopped 27 shots in regulation play and overtime. Christopher Gutierrez of Fairfield Prep had 10 saves in goal.
Darien finished 19-4-1 on the season. It had been the No. 4 seed in the tournament. The Blue Wave had advanced to the final with a 3-1 win over top-seeded Notre Dame of Fairfield in Wednesday’s semifinals. Third-seeded Fairfield Prep (12-4-3) beat Notre Dame of West Haven, 4-3 in overtime, in the semifinals.
Darien lost the Fairfield County Interscholastic Athletic Conference title to New Canaan this season.
Fairfield Prep has won three of the last four Division I hockey championships. The Jesuits defeated Notre Dame of West Haven, 3-2, in last year’s final. This is Prep's ninth title since 2000.
