Five Schools Tune Up for FCIAC

There was a lot of action around the track Thursday in Darien, with five high schools competing against each other. Darien, New Canaan and Wilton joined Norwalk’s two schools in one last tune-up before the postseason.

The host Blue Wave came out in good position, winning all four of their head-to-head matches and nine of 17 events. Wilton was similarly impressive, beating the remaining three schools to finish the season 14-5. New Canaan managed a win over Norwalk, but lost the other three matchups. Norwalk High and Brien McMahon ended the meet in a tie, 75-75.

The day was not without controversy, with a notable finish to the 100 meter dash. McMahon’s Bryan Langley-Wade appeared to take the first heat, but there was a misfire in the starting gun and many runners stopped or hesitated. Langley-Wade hobbled a bit after the heat because of a tight hamstring. When the heat was re-run after the remaining sets, he finished in third, and later he would sit out the 400.

The boys will now rest up for the FCIAC championships, which are Tuesday, May 25 at Danbury High.
