DARIEN, Conn. – Winston Holt was the top fundraiser among Darien riders in last summer’s Connecticut Challenge bike ride. Holt raised $27,500 for the ride, which benefits cancer survivorship programs.
The eighth annual event raised a record $1.6 million. There were 1,087 cyclists from 78 communities in Connecticut. Riders from 19 states joined in the event.
Since its inception in 2005, the Challenge has raised more than $9 million to support cancer survivors across Connecticut. Proceeds support the new Center for Survivorship in Southport, a nonprofit wellness facility for cancer survivors. The center, the first of its kind in the nation, offers programs in exercise, nutrition and psychosocial support to cancer survivors.
