STAMFORD, Conn. Professional hockey players face off once again at the Terry Conners Rink in Stamford Wednesday night for the Big Assist IV. The annual star-studded exhibition game benefits the Obie Harrington-Howes Foundation.
Over the past four years, the yearly game has raised more than $100,000 for the foundation, which gives grants to help people with spinal cord injuries maintain or improve their quality of life.
The foundations namesake is a former Darien hockey and lacrosse coach who was paralyzed in a 1997 swimming accident. He was once coach to Ryan Shannon, a Stanley Cup winner with the Anaheim Ducks who now plays with the ZSC Lions. Shannon teamed up with Harrington-Howes four years ago to start the charity game.
Shannon has gathered several other professional players for the event, several of whom are from Fairfield County. Among those expected to play are future NHL Hall of Famer Marty St. Louis, Max Pacioretty of the Montreal Canadiens, Matt Moulson of the New York Islanders, Kevin Sullivan of Union College, Cam Atkinson of the Columbus Blue Jackets, Hugh Jessiman of the Abbotsford Heat and Jaime Sifer of the Mannheim Eagles.
The game starts at 7 p.m. Tickets are $25 for adults and $10 for minors, or $75 for two adult and three minor tickets.
