Darien's volleyball team will try to take the next step toward its 10th straight Fairfield County Interscholastic Athletic Conference championship Thursday when it meets St. Joseph in the semifinals of the league tournament at Fairfield Ludlowe High School.
The top-seeded Blue Wave (19-0) will meet the fifth-seeded Cadets (15-4) at 7 p.m. No. 3 Ludlowe (16-3) meets No. 2 Greenwich (18-1) at 5 p.m. in the first semifinal. The winners advance to Saturday's championship game at 4 p.m. at Ludlowe.
Darien has won 16 of the last 17 league titles. The Blue Wave's only hiccup during that stretch came in 2000, when Fairfield won. The Blue Wave has dropped just two sets this season one each to Ridgefield and Greenwich and have lost just one match in the last eight years.
