DARIEN, Conn. – Three Darien youth basketball teams scored success on the hardwood by winning championships in the Fairfield County Basketball League.
Among fifth-grade girls, Darien finished the season with a 20-4 record and a 15-game winning streak. The coach was Joe Marzano, and the team included Grace Berry, Catie Duggan, Katie Goldsmith, Lindsay Dimonekas, Maddie Joyce, Megan Streeter, Brianna Lyons, Kelly Richter, Jordan Vaught and Ashley Humphrey.
The sixth-grade girls team also won its league championship. The coach was Kate Begetis, and the team included Caitlin Feeley, Lily Kulesz, Morgan Bieler, Rachel Stobbie, Riley Joyce, Anna Sapio, Josie O’Brien, Caroline Krueger, Ally Napolitano and Anna Edwards.
Darien’s eighth-grade boys blue team rounded out the town’s championships. The coach was Shawn Grant, and the team includes Jack Farren, Carter Scott, Casey Brown, Alex Preston, Charlie Wright, Jackson Ryan, Will Stevens, Riley Stewart, Zak Swetye and Charlie Sealy.
In all, eight of Darien’s 13 teams made the league semifinals for their age groups. Five made it to their respective championship games and three won championships, according to Marzano.
