DARIEN, Conn -- The Darien varsity football will head into a rematch of last year's FCIAC championship game with a 4-0 record after a 24-21 win over Danbury Thursday night.
Darien meets Trumbull at home on Oct. 15. Trumbull suffered its first loss on Thursday, falling to Greenwich, 36-12.
Thursday night Darien had a fight on its hands as it tried to put away Danbury several times but the game was not decided until Peter Gesualdi's interception, his second of the night, with seven seconds left.
Scoring for Darien were Gesualdi (two touchdown runs), Chris Smith (field goal) and Harlan Smith (pass from Harry Baldwin.)
Each time Darien pulled ahead, again Danbury came roaring back, led by James Harrington who scored all of Danbury's touchdowns
