TRUMBULL, Conn -- The Darien High School football team improved its record to 3-0 with a convincing win over St. Joseph, 31-7, in Trumbull on Saturday.
The team was led by the scoring of junior Peter Gesualdi and senior co captain, Corey Eppley. Gesualdi was also responsible for an interception which helped the Darien cause.
Darien struck first on its opening drive with Gesualdi scoring on a 21 yard run. St Joseph's blocked the point after touchdown. The Cadets of St. Joseph's responded with their own score and were briefly ahead, 7-6.
From there. the Blue Wave opened the flood gates. Junior quarterback Henry Baldwin hit Eppley for a 55 yard pass scoring play. Gesualdi added an 11 yard run, followed by a Chris Smith 29 yard field goal and a 14 yard pass from Baldwin to Eppley.
Junior Christian Bognar added to the offense with 95 yards of rushing.
Darien next faces Danbury High School on the road on Thursday evening at 6:30 p.m.
