Weston 7th Grade Football Team Holds Off New Canaan

WESTON, Conn. -- The Weston Trojans 7th grade football team defeated New Cannan Red, 8-6, in a night game before a good-size crowd at New Canaan.

Weston scored on its first possession when quarterback Nate Slump ran in from 5 yards out to take a 6-0 lead. Johnny Cassol scored the 2-point conversion on a tough catch to put Weston ahead, 8-0.

The defense stood stout throughout and was led by Dan McGuire, Joseph McGuire, Andrew Prackup, Duncan McGrade, Hayden Lawrence, Avery Luchetta, Aiden Gomar, and Roman Moniz, who had a key interception. 

Max Burdett anchored the offensive line, which opened up running room. James Goetz and Tyler Bower both ran the ball well against a tough New Canaan defense. 

At the end of the game with New Canaan driving to take the lead, Robert Barcello  and Phoenix Parker combined to sack the quarterback and seal the victory for Weston.

Weston is 1-1 in the Fairfield County Football League. The Trojans meet undefeated Wilton White on Saturday under the lights at Weston High School at 6:30 p.m.
