I am totally disgusted with the City of Norwalk and The Norwalk Parking Authority for tomorrow's commuting nightmare!! They asked residents to stay home to work..UM, let me see how my employer and accounts feel about that...The PArking Authority doesn't have any idea, plan, thought as to what to do with all the extra commuters coming this way..Can you say NIGHTMARE in Norwalk tomorrow!!!!! Monday is going to live up to its reputation...Good Luck everyone! View Comment
It's such an open forum that the Governor has all the questions pre-screaned before we can ask them. What exactly is he afraid of? A real hard question that would require a truthful answer? Yeah, I guess that would scare me as well. View Comment
Michelle I have to say that we have had our differences throughout the last 2 years (BTW, I now am addicted to WWF) but have too say over time we have grown past and at least have agreed to be cordial to one another which is all I could have asked for. I was wrong at the time for my comments and I have admitted that a number of times. As for the budget non-battle this year I am very proud and stated at the meeting of how things are going. I am none to happy of the rumors running around that there will be over a million taken back because of the more ECS money coming in. However, as the Mayor said it comes with many, many strings attached, so I do not consider that "real" money. But with that being said there is as you said a revolutionary year for the council and there is a good strong working relationship with the BOE as well. The only thing I would like to remind you is something I said at the Common Council meeting and at the ECS Task Force meeting in Bridgeport last year. When making these decision let us please not just look at the numbers on the paper let's remember that the decisions we make effect mine & your children as well. The choices are tough and budgets are never easy but this year is different and let's take that momentum and finish this process with a budget we all could be proud of. Of course Bruce is never happy. View Comment
I'm just curious how much more he can tax us? He is not a leader! Why doesn't he come down to Norwalk and listen to the residents about what his tax increases have done, how much of a joke the ECS formula is and what would happen if he removes the car tax..I can't wait until he is out of office.

How many people commute to New York on a daily basis alone should dictate that this program is DOA! Another brilliant idea from the Malloy administration..1 & Done! View Comment
This is a joke and a waste of time..Bob really doesn't know what we need and want in Norwalk?!??! If that's the case then we really have an issue here. Let's just start by stating the State of CT SCREWS NORWALK let me repeat that SCREWS NORWALK in ECS funding for our schools. The ECS task force didn't even make down to Norwalk after countless invites. I could go on but I actually have to get back to work. View Comment
I'm starting to agree that I think DaDonna should stay on as full superintendent. I wish that he would reconsider his decision. I am also very happy to see the council and BOE are in agreement that the budget is within reason and should be accepted and passed without the normal in-fighting we have experienced year after year. However, Jerry is right that nothing can really be decided on until the State gets their act together. And of course we all know that we are still going to get screwed on ECS money. We just have to wait and see... View Comment
Please let's cut some more money from the BOE budget so we could help a private managed golf course. The city better not give them one freaking dime. If they do there will be some serious questions that will need to be answered from our elected officials. Oak Hills can go and get a loan from a bank like every other business can if they qualify. How freaking dare they?!?! I wish I had big ones like them to do this. All members of their board or whatever they have running this place should resign NOW based on plain stupidity. We cut library aides, VP's teachers, and lord knows what else but they city has money to give to a golf course!??! If that's the case then we have some very serious wrapped priorities in this city. If the city gives them oh I'm sorry "loans" them the money the BOE should be forgiven for the loan they received last year because of an accounting error and put that money back into the classrooms where it belongs! Mike thanks for responding to my comments. I really hope this process will be open a little more then the last one was. I was at the "meet the new schools superintendent" at City Hall but by that time Dr. Marks (who I liked and very much & respect) was the only candidate and eventually hired. This is a HUGE crossroads for the city and especially the children. There are a lot of good things that are going on here and I really think Tony has done a fantastic job as a "temp". And that being said we need to take his and the rest of the board's passion with the community input and make sure we get this search right. I would truly like to have an opportunity to have multiple candidates almost like a debate forum and then receive community input. We really need to choose a leader, who can bring Norwalk to new levels of education seldom seen here Dr. Marks once told me we should be comparing ourselves to places like: Westport, Weston, Wilton, Fairfield. That should be our goal for Norwalk. When we need to strive to be the best and better not lower our expectations and that is what I want to see from our new superintendent. View Comment
Just curious here, shouldn't their have been MORE parents and PTO involvement on this committee? The way I see it we have 1 middle school parent and the rest are some good BOE people. But why is the Director of Stepping Stones on the committee? We need at least 5 parents from all levels of schools...ESPECIALLY ELEMENTARY! This is supposed to be an open process with parent involvement, not a few chosen few... View Comment
Ken. Let me clear up some mis-information for ya. The railroad makes money for not only the State of CT but also the MTA. The ridership on this line has increased over 5% over the last 2 years. There are more people taking the train between Greenwich and New Haven then ever. And BTW, that money goes into the state coffers. Further the inter-state travel on the New Haven Line is growing like gangbusters, so they’re again more money to the state. However, not only do we pay the highest ticket prices in the nation for a commuter railroad we also all have to pay for parking to the individual towns. The City of Norwalk gets $90 a month from over 500 monthly parkers just for the SONO garage. They also get $9 from the daily parkers. The garage is 99% full daily!! So before you jump on the high road of monthly commuters should pay an extra $30.00 a month let me remind you that for the next 3 years there are mandated 5% increases in fares for not only the new M-8's but money for the general fund and NOT repeat NOT for the up-keep of the most used rail corridor in the nation with the most ridership. This line and corridor is the lifeblood of Fairfield County. If it goes to pot and people stop using it to commute then good luck to the rest of the state. And just for an FYI ridership on the New Canaan, Waterbury and Danbury are all up for the last few years. I may work in NYC and if I could get a good paying job in CT I would work here, but my home, kids, and tax dollars are spent here...Anything else I can do for ya? View Comment
The one part the article fails to mention is that our wonderful Gov Malloy is using the money that the railroad generates for the railroad is not going to be used for improvements for the railroad. Instead he is creating a separate tax on commuters only and taking the money for the rest of the state in the general fund. Why are we being penalized here Danny Boy?!!?!? What did we do except commute to a good paying job and come home and spend our hard earned money in this state. This TAX and fare increases over the next few years are totally un-fair and unjustified! How about cut spending first then let's see what happens. View Comment
I haven't been there yet, but I have heard some great feedback from friends. I am so going to go there in January when I get 5 minutes. However, this is truly a GREAT thing for Norwalk!!

I'm a little confused here: There is a huge grant associated with this program and we are concerned about the costs that are covered..So where is the disconnect? And for the most part it would be an hour a day...60 minutes that's it!! And the fact the Mr. Lyons doesn't think there would be a benefit to the children is very concerning to me as a parent. We have had TONS and millions cut from our budget and now have a chance to get some extra cash and learning time for our children but he think the effects needs to be studied?!?!?! Mr. Lyons I am really surprised about this from you and all a "Study" is going to do is waste more time and more effort and money. I can truthfully think about 10 positives that would come out of this pilot program and we need EVERYTHING in Norwalk to help our students or are test scores in the middle and high school not accurate and we are just very skeptical of them. Norwalk needs to move forward shake our bad rap in our schools and give our children EVERYTHING we can to make them better. My son loosing an extra hour in an after school program versus being in class and getting extra help or learning something new?!??! Yeah, let me see the negative effect. Mr. Lyons, if you are going to lead the BOE then I truthfully think that you need to keep the students concerns first rather then the costs. If there is a chance to still get involved in this program I strongly urge the BOE to do so as soon as possible. View Comment
I agree totally with Tom Hamilton. If the City wants to waste more money at Oak Hills then they better be prepared to fund the BOE 100% w/o any of the BS about we don't have the funds. If Oak Hills wants a driving range then let Oak Hills figure out how to raise funds and build one themselves. I am not even sure why Fred is wasting time meeting with them. View Comment
