It's well known that big industry high jacked the regulatory agencies such as the FDA and EPA a long time ago. Unfortunately too many politicians and citizens are still uninformed enough to trust what these agencies declare about the safety of specific industry products? View Comment
Marcia - I think you miss the theme of what is taking place in journalism, politics, the economy etc. ... I give you a recent article from a former editor of The Wall St Jrnl and ranked in 1993 by Forbes as one of the top seven journalists in the US. He was also Assistant Secty to the Treasury under Reagan etc, etc. ... The article (copy & paste link below).
Well it sure as hell musta been something like a brain tumor, .. er, .. or ahhh... maybe early onset alzheimers. .... Cuz we all know that anyone who appears as respectable, successful and 'fine upstanding citizen' like as this msm icon was, ... would never blatantly lie like that! .... Never!
Regarding "enforcement", ....the way it's going to end up being addressed is via all the surveillance cameras that are being set in place everywhere. ... Cameras will see you driving while holding a phone and you will receive a debit on your credit or bank account. The same will happen with the likes of speeding or running a red light etc. .... It's a 'Brave New World'. View Comment
LIsa - It's pretty easy to tell the difference between someone "chatting" or socializing on their phone and someone dealing with 'official' business related to their job. Body language says a lot. .... The fact is, it is well known that police officers take liberties with the law in various ways all the time. They know they can get away with it, so they do. ... Not all of them of course, but many do.
..... Additionally, it would seem that just as cars being sold today are often equipped to provide cell phone communication by simple voice command to the system that is built into the cars dashboard, if patrol officers need to use their cell phone for police business, police cars should be equipped to provide that function also. It makes little sense for the job to force them to put themselves and other drivers at risk because of the policeman having to break an important safety law and have to use a handheld cell phone. This seems funny to me when I recall the numerous times I have witnessed a patrol car policeman cruising around chatting on their hand held cell phone. Laws like this are like the traffic law against running red lights. Running red lights has become such a common practice today (also done by police), that it's become the norm. No-one (nor the police), cares anymore. View Comment
Jeese, .. I thought the country had gotten over the paranoia and fear of communists already. Now we're all supposed to be terrified of terrorists. ... Next it will be the alien invaders from outer space. View Comment
Portugal cut their illegal drug abuse problem in half over a ten year period, by re-directing the money they had previously been spending on enforcement and instead spending it on rehabilitation. ... Drug abuse is a disease, not a criminal activity. View Comment
This is nothing. ... If you want the abuse of animals stopped, stop buying industry produced meat and dairy products. The daily horrific abuse of livestock, chickens and dairy cows is a crime of inhumanity that ranks with the likes of Auschwitz. When is our society going to put an end to factory farming? Not to mention, stop poisoning our food supply and thus ourselves and our environment. View Comment
The important information that people need is left out of this article. That is that the truth is that the clogging of arteries is caused by the consumption of sugar and refined carbohydrates, which causes inflammation of the lining of the arteries. The body responds to the inflammation by sending cholesterol to the area to attempt to repair or patch the damage. Too much of this and it builds up to critical levels. Cholesterol is not the 'cause' it is simply a result of the true cause, which is sugar.
Also, in truth, healthy, quality forms of saturated fat are not only good for the body, they are needed by the body. Some good sources of saturated fat include; grass fed, organic butter ... exclusively grass fed, organic meat .... organic, extra virgin coconut oil .... avacado ..... organic, exclusively 'pasture raised' eggs.
Can't disagree with you more. In my opinion what we need are people of integrity and honor, not people who know how to 'play the game' and lie and cheat to get ahead. That is how you facilitate a more healthy and peaceful society. ... Of course we elect people into office in Washington all the time who appear to be 'fine upstanding citizens' and yet who lie and cheat their way there, so maybe we are getting exactly what we want. Why should journalism show any more integrity than politicians do? After all, we all know that the bottom line is, it's all about money and personal gain. View Comment
