FAIRFIELD COUNTY, Conn. -- Light snow began to fall during the Tuesday morning rush hour in Fairfield County, leaving a wet coat on the area's roads and highways and causing delays on the trains.

Roads were slippery, with reduced visibility for drivers. Traffic was slowing on I-95, especially in the usual trouble spots in Fairfield, through Norwalk and in Stamford. Sticking snow and slow conditions were also reported on the Merritt Parkway from Westport and Norwalk and into New Canaan and Stamford.

But no major problems or accidents were reported on the region's roadways.

New Haven Line trains were experiencing delays of 10 to 15 minutes due to the weather, Metro-North said at about 8:15 a.m. Tuesday. Riders should listen for updates at train stations.

Snow began to fall at about daybreak, and pockets of light to moderate snow will track across Fairfield County as the day wears on, the National Weather Service said. It could pile up at the rate of an inch per hour.

Highways, roads and sidewalks will be slippery as 2 to 4 inches of snow accumulates.

A Winter Weather Advisory remains in place until 6 p.m. Tuesday across most of Connecticut, the Hudson Valley, New York City, Long Island and northern New Jersey. Temperatures will rise into the 30s by late morning, and the snow could begin to mix with rain by afternoon.

The area will be getting some warmer weather later this week, with a chance that the huge piles of snow will begin melting.

The forecast for Wednesday includes a chance of daytime rain with a high in the 40s. Thursday will be partly sunny and and a high in the 40s. Rain arrives Thursday night and continues at times Friday with a spring-like temperatures in the 50s.
