FAIRFIELD COUNTY, Conn. -- Don't put away those shovels just yet. A winter weather advisory has been issued for parts of Fairfield County Sunday, with snow, freezing rain and sleet expected throughout the day.

The winter weather advisory will be in effect from midnight tonight to midnight Sunday night, according to the National Weather Service.

While the rest of Saturday is expected to be mostly cloudy with a steady temperature of around 39, the snow is expected to hit late tonight. There is a chance of snow and freezing rain after 3 a.m. It will be mostly cloudy with a low around 28, and calm wind becoming a north wind around 5 mph after midnight. The chance of precipitation is 50 percent.

On Sunday there is a 100 percent chance of precipitation, with snow, freezing rain and sleet expected before noon, then rain, snow and sleet. The high will be near 37, with wind chill values between 20 and 30. The east wind will be around 9 mph.

Sunday night there will be rain and sleet before midnight, then a chance of snow. The low will be around 31, with wind chill values between 20 and 25. Wind gusts could get as high as 29 mph. The chance of precipitation is 60 percent.

The NWS warns that 3 to 5 inches of snow could accumulate, with a trace of ice accumulation, mostly in northern Fairfield County. Roads will be hazardous and slippery, and travel will be difficult. Drivers should be prepared for limited visibility and use caution.

Monday is expected to be partly sunny, with a high near 37. It will be windy, with a northwest wind between 20 and 26 mph, and gusts as high as 43 mph.
