Storms Will Bring Heavy Rain And Wind To Darien This Week

FAIRFIELD COUNTY, Conn. -- After a dry start to the week on Monday, rain and storms are expected to hit Fairfield County Tuesday and drench the area.

Monday will be mostly cloudy, with a high near 70, according to the National Weather Service. There will be a calm wind, which will become a south wind of 5 to 8 mph in the afternoon.

There will be areas of drizzle before 2 a.m., followed by a chance of showers. Otherwise the night will be cloudy, with a low around 62. The chance of precipitation is 60 percent, though less than a tenth of an inch of rain is expected.

Heavy rain is expected to roll in on Tuesday, which will see showers and thunderstorms after 2 p.m. Some of the storms could produce potentially damaging winds with gusts as high as 31 mph. There will also be patchy fog before 2 p.m. Two to 3 inches of rain are likely, with localized swaths of 3 to 5 inches possible. The rain will present a threat of minor urban and small stream flooding, with a localized threat for flash flooding. The high will be near 71.

The chance of rain and thunderstorms will continue into Tuesday night, with gusts as high as 30 mph to continue as well. The low will be around 61.

Showers are likely to hit on Wednesday morning, mainly before 9 a.m. The rest of the day will be cloudy, with a high near 67. The wind will also die down to about 8 mph. The chance of precipitation is 60 percent on Wednesday, with between a half and three-quarters of an inch possible. Wednesday night will be partly cloudy, with a low around 46.

It is expected to clear up on Thursday, which will be mostly sunny with a high near 59. Thursday night will be partly cloudy, with a low around 42.

Friday will be sunny, with a high near 62. Friday night will be mostly clear, with a low around 46.

It will be mostly sunny on Saturday, when the high will be near 64. Saturday night will see a 30 percent chance of showers, but will otherwise be mostly cloudy, with a low around 49. That rain could continue into Sunday, when there is a 40 percent chance of showers.
