Wind Chills Drop Below Zero As More Snow Heads To Darien

FAIRFIELD COUNTY, Conn. -- After an overnight with temperatures in the single digits, Presidents Day will dawn Monday with wind chill values as low as 3 below zero across Fairfield County, the National Weather Service said.

Monday will be sunny with highs in the upper 20s with strong wind gusts. But that will give way to clouds by evening, with snow beginning after midnight.

About an inch of snow will accumulate overnight, with more snow Tuesday morning, the weather service said. It could turn to rain by the afternoon with highs in the 30s. The chance of precipitation is 100 percent with new snow accumulation of 1 to 3 inches possible.

Some of the heavy snowpack on the ground could begin to melt by Wednesday. It will be mostly cloudy with a chance of rain showers in the morning and in the afternoon with highs in the mid 40s. Thursday will be mostly sunny with highs in the mid 40s as well.

The relentless storms this winter have left many towns and cities as well as the state with shortages of salt used to treat the roads. Last week, a nor'easter dumped more than a foot of snow as well as a coating of ice from Thursday into Friday morning.

  • Fairfield: 16.2 inches
  • Danbury: 15.6 inches
  • New Canaan: 15.3 inches
  • Weston: 14.3 inches
  • Norwalk: 13.5 inches
  • Stamford: 13 inches
