DARIEN, Conn. -- The Darien YMCA is hosting several health and wellness events throughout March. All events are open to both members and nonmembers.
"Athletes, Exercise and a Healthy Heart" lecture -- Tuesday, March 8, at 6 p.m., in the Community Room -- Dr. Cusak and Dr. Hsi, of Stamford Hospital, will present this lecture. They will focus on how to keep your cardiovascular system happy and healthy during sports, fitness and all recreational activities.
pop-up fitness classes -- These are a series of classes held twice per month, featuring several of the Darien Y's fitness programs that usually require preregistration and a fee. These classes are open to members at no cost, and open to nonmembers with the purchase of a $20 ClassPass. If a member brings a nonmember guest to a pop-up fitness class, using a guest pass, the member will receive a 10 percent discount if they sign up for the program.
In March, these pop-up classes include a sample from the kettlebell program, from 9:30-10:15 a.m. on Thursday, March 10, and a "How to Use a Foam Roller" class from 3:15-4:15 p.m. on Thursday, March 17.
mother and daughter yoga workshop -- Sunday, March 20, from 3:15-4:15 p.m., in Studio 2 -- Instructed by Danielle Brown and her daughter Gigi, the workshop will focus on mindfulness training and the fundamentals of yoga, including sun salutations, standing poses, balancing postures, seated and reclining poses, backbends, and core isolation and strengthening.
The workshop is for mothers and their 7 to 11-year-old daughters. The cost for each mother-daughter pair is $20 for members and $30 for nonmembers. Extra children or friends cost $5 each. Register at the Y's front desk; space is limited.
