Darien Y's 'Y Games' Builds a Generation of Givers

DARIEN, Conn. -- In Darien, sports play a big role in the lives of our children. Many kids are fortunate to have the opportunity to compete in a sport year-round. But, did you know that over 2,000 people in Darien live below the poverty line, and struggle to meet their everyday needs? It can be challenging for some families to afford sports programing fees and equipment. This is where the Y comes in.

In the 2nd Annual Y Games, participants can help children who would normally be unable to take advantage of all the Y has to offer.

Through our Financial Assistance Program no one is turned away from the Darien Y because of the inability to pay. Our goal is to make sure that every child has the opportunity to compete in our sports, special needs, swimming, summer camp, and other youth programs.

This year, everyone in your family has an opportunity to make a difference by competing in the 2nd Annual Y Games: Team Charity Challenge. In just a few short hours, your family can help provide many children with the opportunity to take part in programs that were previously out of their reach. Moreover, participating in the Y Games is a quick and easy way for kids to give back to their community, all while having fun!

Kids ages 10+ are eligible to compete in the Family Division (one adult age 18+ must be on the team of four), while kids ages 15+ may compete in the Adult Division. Remember, every push-up, pull-up, lap in the pool, and mile on a spin bike during the Games has a purpose - giving back to and building our community. Don’t forget, there will be some great prizes too!
