We’re talking about the good kind of sweat that comes from a fun, inspiring workout, because JoyRide Cycling Studio has opened its second location in Fairfield County in Darien’s Goodwives Shopping Center.

Founded by Westport residents Amy Hochhauser, Debbie Katz and Rhodie Lorenz, the boutique workout company opened its first location at 1200 Post Road East in Westport and will bring the same level of enthusiasm to the new site.

“We are excited to spread the joy of indoor cycling to Darien!” Hochhauser said in a statement. “Working out at JoyRide doesn’t feel like work. Our classes get the endorphins flowing, clear the mind, and relieve stress. We want the hour riders spend at JoyRide to be the best hour of their day!”

In addition to indoor cycling, the studio also offers classes in mat Pilates, and JoySculpt and JoyCircuit,  which are group interval training classes combining weights, resistance and plyometric training. Additionally, JoyRide also offers personal training.

The Westport studio opened in 2011, and the Darien site is the town’s first fitness boutique dedicated to indoor cycling. Classes will be led by an instructor in a low-lit room and set to popular and rock music.

Indoor cycling has been a popular form of exercise for years, in part because it is a low-impact but high-calorie burn workout where people can sweat through nearly 800 calories. JoyRide offers classes beginning at 6 a.m., seven days a week, and ending in the evening.

“Our riders get a whole-body workout on the bike, which translates to optimal results,” said Lorenz.  “Instructors at JoyRide emphasize safety and form throughout the ride. Riders are taught to engage abdominal muscles to create a more powerful pedal stroke and protect their lower backs, to breathe deeply while exerting themselves physically, and to clear their minds and disconnect from the busyness of their daily lives. Riders gain a 50-minute workout to improve mental and physical fitness.”

Costs for the classes vary depending on the package: from single classes for $26 (first class is free) up to $2,050 for a full-year membership of unlimited classes. Packages of five, 10, 20, 50 and unlimited monthly passes are also available.

On Thursday, the Darien JoyRide will hold a ribbon-cutting ceremony at 5:30 p.m. with members of Darien Chamber of Commerce. On Saturday, the studio will host its grand opening from 8 a.m. to noon with free classes, demonstrations and raffle prizes.
