According to a statement from the organization, the YMCA has opened registration for Lean Machine, an eight-week “customized system for losing weight and getting fit.”

Kicking off on Jan. 7, the competition runs through March 4, according to the YMCA, which said that the program is designed for adults of all ages and fitness levels and will measure body fat loss as opposed to weight loss.

Those participating in past competitions have lost an average of 9 inches and close to 4 percent of their body fat, according to the YMCA, which said that more than 265 participants have participated in Lean Machine in the past three years.

This year’s competition features a new element, the YMCA said, adding that InBody 570 is a body composition assessment tool that provides precise measurements of body fat, lean muscle mass and water weight distribution.

The tool, according to the YMCA, will provide more detailed information that will allow participants to specially tailor their diets.

Lean Machine participants will receive two group personal training sessions each week, eight guided health coaching workshops with certified coach Carol Haggerty Reardon, additional hours to meet one-on-one with Reardon, optional weekly weigh-ins, a 10 percent discount at Little Bites Café throughout the competition, 20 percent off YMCA personal training packages purchased between Feb. 19 – March 4, a “We’re All In” water bottle and a chance to win a free one-month club membership, a 10-pack of personal training sessions, massages and other prizes, according to the YMCA.

Through a group Facebook page, participants will have the opportunity to share questions and tips with Lean Machine coaches and others, according to the YMCA.

Lean Machine’s program fee is $470 for YMCA members and $570 for non-members, according to the YMCA, which said that registration for people ages 15 and older is currently taking place at the Darien YMCA Wellness Center, 2420 Post Road.
