DARIEN, Conn. — The state’s recently rebuilt rest areas offer charging stations for electric cars, and it appears that at least one driver is using them.
A Tesla, a luxury all-electric car, was seen recharging at the Darien I-95 south rest area Monday afternoon.
The Tesla starts out at about $75,000. The cost to charge at the rest area? It's free.
Founded in 2003 by Silicon Valley engineers, Tesla launched its first Roadster in 2008. The vehicle can accelerate from 0 to 60 mph in 3.7 seconds, according to the company’s website .
The company now has 50,000 vehicles on the road. It’s Fremont, Calif., factory has the capacity to produce 1,000 vehicles per week.
