Glavin’s winning piece, entitled “In Conversation,” is a collage using found papers, and it was one of 264 entries from 173 artists who participated in this year’s event. Public viewings of the entries will continue through June 8 from noon to 5 p.m. at the Weatherstone Studio in the Darien Art Center, behind Town Hall at 2 Renshaw Road.
“We were thrilled by the level of participation,” said the event’s co-chair Meg Tweedy, in a statement. “Thirty-one more adults entered than last year – the most ever. But what is most exciting is that half of our adult first-prize winners are college-age artists.”
In all, 57 winners were named in 14 categories, including works in oils and acrylics, watercolor, mixed media, sculpture, photography and pastel.
“We love to see young adults continue to take part in the show,” said co-chair Britt Bair. “And we feel so fortunate to be a part of this incredible community that is dedicated to supporting the arts.”
Adult first place winners included Paul Anthony for Black and White Photography; Richard Tweedy for Color Photography; Meg Gardella for Drawing/Pastel; Amy Schott for Mixed Media/Printmaking; Helen Robinson for Oil; Pamela Lindberg for Acrylics; Hillary Collins for Sculpture; and Mary Yordon for Watercolor.
High school first place winners were Graham Manning, Annie Archibald, and David Ziga. Elementary and middle school first place winners were Jana Powers, Abby St. Jean, and Taelyn Richards.
