1. Pick your vice, only one.

?Is it just me or was there an abundance of sweet treats and alcohol flowing through the holiday season? Answer this: How many times have you brought a bottle of wine or Italian pastries as a party gift? Ok, point made. So you're going to have that glass of wine, bottle of beer, flute of champagne, or maybe all of them. Now, drink the truth: ALCOHOL HAS CALORIES TOO! A lot, and not the good kind. Both dessert and alcohol contain sugar, the root of all evil. So when you’re picking on what to indulge on, whether pastries or wine, think of them as the same and just pick one. The saying never was: "You can have your wine and cake too." Did it?

2. Move every day.

You heard it before. Get off the couch, stop watching Home Alone (because you've see it nine times) and MOVE! Get to the gym, it was created for a reason. That reason: to help you live a more active and healthy lifestyle. Fitness facilities are filled with a variety of equipment, trainers and group fitness classes to cater anyone’s needs. A little birdie even told me there were over a hundred classes at the Darien Y, a hundred! I think their goal is to make it impossible for you to not move.

3. Don't dwell on mistakes.

You ate the cake, drank the wine and didn’t move, and I guarantee you feel the aftermath and guilt of it all. Take a deep breath, let it go and turn the page to tomorrow. Your lesson was learned. You can’t go back and erase what you did, but you have the freedom (and knowledge) to choose better choices today - this is where our New Year resolutions come into play.

This year I want you to make sure you meet your health and fitness resolutions by signing up for the Darien YMCA’s most popular program, THE LEAN MACHINE. This eight week program includes everything you need: 2 group training sessions a week, nutrition workshops, a weekly workout schedule and accountability from the entire Lean Machine team of health and fitness professionals. We’ve done all our planning and couldn’t be more excited to turn your life around. All you need to do is sign up and look forward to a better you in 2015. Did I mention there is a chance you could win over $3,000 in prizes?
