Feeling patriotic? If you are looking to honor those who have died in service to the country, here are some of the parades and events set for Monday:
Danbury:
The Memorial Day 5K will start and finish at the Green at City Center, with runners taking off at 8:45 a.m. Monday, May 26. The race will follow the same course on Main Street as the parade.
The parade is scheduled to step off at 9:30 a.m. Monday from Main and Rose streets. It will march down Main Street and end at Rogers Park. A service in the Rose Memorial Garden will follow the parade at about 11:30 a.m. Lt. Gov. Nancy Wyman will march in the parade.
Darien:
The parade will begin at 10 a.m. Monday, May 26, at the Goodwives Shopping Center on Old Kings Highway North and proceed to the Spring Grove Ceremony on Hecker Avenue, where a ceremony will be held. This year's grand marshal is Walter McCurdy, a U.S. Navy veteran who served in both World War II and the Korean War.
Darien EMS Post 53 will host its annual Food Fair after the parade at Tilley Park Pond to raise money to support the community’s emergency medical services. The fair will continue until 3 p.m. Tickets are $5 and can be purchased at the gate.
Easton :
The town's Memorial Mile Race will take off at 9 a.m. Monday, May 26, from the Easton Fire House. The parade begins from the same spot at 9:30 a.m., heading down Center Road to Easton Town Hall. After the parade, leaders will speak in a ceremony at Town Hall at 10 a.m. The parade's theme this year is patriotism and service. Master of ceremonies is Post Commander Capt. Tony Unger, retired, U.S. Coast Guard.
Fairfield:
The parade starts at 10 a.m. Monday, May 26, at the Post Road and South Pine Creek Road and progresses to Old Post Road to Flint's Corner, down Old Post Road past the reviewing stand and ending at South Benson Road.
At the end of the parade, U.S. Sen. Richard Blumenthal will give a speech at the reviewing stand in front of Town Hall and near the Memorial Wall. Following the speech, the town will hold its annual town picnic with music, food and other activities.
Greenwich:
Greenwich's Sound Beach Volunteer Fire Department parade, will begin at 10 a.m. Monday, May 26. It starts on Sound Beach Avenue and goes through Old Greenwich, ending at Binney Park.
New Canaan:
The New Canaan Parade will start promptly at 9:30 a.m. Monday, May 26, at St. Mark’s Church. It marches to Lakeview Cemetery, where a ceremony will be held. The Rev. Eric Fjeldal from the United Methodist Church of New Canaan will give the Invocation and Benediction. John Wilson will be the grand marshal, and U.S. Navy veteran Gary MacIntyre will be the guest speaker.
Norwalk:
The parade will begin at 10 a.m. Monday, May 26, at Veterans Park on Seaview Avenue and proceed to the Green on East Avenue. The grand marshal will be Lee Seymour, a U.S. Marine from the Korean War era.
Ridgefield:
The parade begins at 11:30 a.m. Monday, May 26, at the Jesse Lee Church. It will then march up Main Street and finish at Ballard Park with speeches and ceremonies from local dignitaries and veterans.
Weston:
The town of Weston parade will start at 10:45 a.m. Monday, May 26, in front of Weston High School. It will continue down School Road to Weston Road and ends at the Town Hall. A ceremony follows at the Town Hall Gazebo and will include raising the flag and playing of taps. The Boy Scouts will place a wreath.
Westport:
The Westport Memorial Day Parade starts at 9 a.m. Monday, May 26, from Saugatuck Elementary on Riverside Avenue It will end in Parker-Harding Plaza. A memorial ceremony will follow immediately on Veterans Green. Robert Satter, a veteran of World War II, is the grand marshal.
Wilton:
The parade starts at 10 a.m. Monday, May 26, on River Road at the Stop & Shop plaza. It through Wilton Center and heads up Ridgefield Road to Hillside Cemetery for a memorial ceremony. The grand marshal will be Trygve Hansen, a veteran of World War II.
