DARIEN, Conn. – Darien resident John Tibbetts and Norwalk resident Carol Anderson were recently elected as readers of the First Church of Christ, Scientist, in Darien.
On Sunday, Jan. 18, Tibbets and Anderson begin three-year terms conducting Christian Science services.
Tibbets will serve as first reader and Anderson as second reader.
“Since there are no ordained clergy in Christian Science, all church functions are carried out entirely by lay members,” First Church of Christ, Scientist officials wrote in a news release.
“The two elected readers carry the main responsibility for Sunday morning and Wednesday evening services of the church.”
Tibbets and Anderson’s main duties will be to read the Christian Science weekly Bible lesson-sermon to the church’s congregation on Sundays.
Tibbets as first reader will lead Wednesday evening services with Anderson’s input and assistance.
Services are held Sundays at 10:30 am and Wednesdays at 8 p.m. at 2331 Post Road, Darien. All are welcome.
The Christian Science Reading Room, a spiritual resource center and quiet place for study, is at 1904 Post Road, Darien.
