At that appearance, prosecutors confirmed that the federal gun charges had been dropped against Navin, 27, a Bridgeport resident who is charged with two counts of murder, the Post said. His parents, Jeffrey and Jeanette Navin, went missing from their Easton home Aug. 4. Their bodies were found buried in yard debris at an abandoned home in Weston on Oct. 29.

The Post also reported that Navin winked at a television camera while in court. His case was continued until Jan. 20 as defense attorneys decide whether to request a probably cause hearing, the Post said.

Navin was arrested by federal authorities on Sept. 8 and charged with possession of a firearm by someone who is illegally using or addicted to a controlled substance. At the time, he was a person of interest in his parents' disappearance.

Navin, who reportedly had a heroin habit, and his girlfriend were charged in the murders after the remains were found. Jennifer Valiante, 31, has pleaded not guilty to conspiracy to commit murder and hindering prosecution.

The arrest warrants outlined a plan that Navin would kill his parents so he and Valiante could inherit their estate and live out their dreams.

Jeffrey Navin, 56, was president of J&J Refuse in Westport, and his wife, Jeanette Navin, 55, was a Weston Intermediate School library paraprofessional.

Kyle Navin was held on $2.5 million bond. Valiante was held on $2 million bond.
