DARIEN, Conn. -- A Pennsylvania man was sentenced to 14 months in prison Friday, April 11, in Stamford for trying to run over his children with a car in Darien in 2013, according to The Hour Online.

Hollis Ross, 69, pleaded guilty previously at Stamford Superior Court to second-degree assault with a motor vehicle and criminal violation of a protective order, according to the report. Hollis is set to serve four years of probation and he is subject to a 25-year restraining order, barring him from contacting his children and ex-wife, according to the report. He is also barred from entering the state of Massachusetts, where the protected family members live.

Ross was initially charged with "criminal attempt at manslaughter, criminal violation of a protective order, reckless endangerment, criminal mischief, operation of a motor vehicle while under the influence and breach of peace," according to the Hour Online report.

Ross was seen driving a sedan across several Casement Street lawns at about in August 2013, according to previous reports from Daily Voice . He hit an SUV belonging to his estranged wife that was parked in her driveway, according to Darien police reports. After the crash, Ross got out of his car and began striking the SUV’s windshield with a hammer, Darien Police said.

The woman’s two adult children were standing in the driveway at the time. The two “narrowly escaped being struck by the vehicle by diving into bushes and plantings that are along the driveway,” Detective Mark Cappelli said in a press release following the incident. Police believed that Ross intended to hit the two based on their investigation at the scene.

Ross had been held on a $500,000 bond since August 2013.
