DARIEN, Conn. — Repair work was continuing Thursday morning on a ruptured gas line in Darien, according to a statement from police.
The gas leak is in the area of Holmes Court, Abbey Road, and Intervale Road. The following roads remain blocked, police said:
- Abbey Road is closed at Intervale Road
- Intervale Road is closed at Abbey Road
- Any traffic traveling north on Holmes Court will have to turn right once reaching Intervale Road.
As of Thursday morning, 43 customers remained without gas service. Due to some equipment issues the estimated time to restore service is late Thursday morning. The road repair will take longer and is expected to last into Thursday afternoon, at which point all roads can be reopened.
The First Student school bus transportation company was notified of the road closures, and it made appropriate arrangements for morning pickups.
The gas line ruptured Wednesday, and work continued all night, according to the Darien Times.
The construction company that ruptured the gas line was a third party contractor working on behalf of the town of Darien, the Times said. Eversource shut down some power in the area, and some homes were initially evacuated as a precaution, the Times said.
