Sledgehammer Robbers Hit Darien Jewelry Store

DARIEN, Conn. – Three masked men with sledgehammers smashed display cases at David Harvey Jewelers Tuesday morning before making off with jewelry and watches. Police said the trio came into the Post Road store at 11:08 a.m. and ordered employees and customers to get down on the floor. They then smashed the cases and took the merchandise. No weapons were displayed, and the value of the stolen jewelry was not immediately known.

The three left the store and got into a gray 1989 Toyota Camry driven by a fourth individual. The car was registered to a resident of Brooklyn, and it was not known  whether the car had been reported as stolen.

The car took off westbound on Post Road and was last seen entering I-95 southbound. The robbery is being investigated by the Darien Police Department's Detective Division. Anyone with information is asked to call the Detective Division at (203) 662-5330.
