DARIEN, Conn. - William R. Doughman (Bill) of Darien died April 19. He was 92.

Doughman was born Oct. 1, 1921, in Pittsburgh, Pa., to Francis K. Doughman and Ferman C. Doughman. In his early years, he resided in Springfield, Mass., prior to moving to Stamford. A graduate of Roanoke College in Salem, Va., he served in the U. S. Navy during World War II, and was discharged in November 1945. He and his wife resided in Darien for over 60 years.

He was a chemist for the American Cyanamid Co. in Stamford until his retirement in 1986. He also worked at Ring's End Lumber Co. in Darien for over 30 years. He was a longtime member of the Darien Senior Men's Association; The Piedmont Club of Darien and the Darien YMCA. He volunteered for Meals on Wheels and the American Red Cross. He was also a longtime member of the Darien Sewer Commission, serving as chairman and on the Zoning Board of Appeals.

Doughman is survived by his children, William W. Doughman (Gaelen) of Stone Ridge, N.Y., Mary Sue Cotton (Donald) of Needham, Mass., and Deborah Szilagyi (John) of North Granby; and seven grandchildren. He was predeceased by his parents; wife, Edna Mae.

Calling hours are from 12 to 2 p.m. at the Edward Lawrence Funeral Home , 2119 Boston Post Road, Darien. A memorial service will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday, May 10 at the funeral home followed by burial at Spring Grove Cemetery in Darien.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Darien/Stamford Chapter of the American Red Cross , Darien EMS Post 53 or donor's charity of choice.
