Dave A. Delapara, 23, was charged with 15 counts of possession of a forged credit card, six counts of unlawful use of a credit card, five counts of receipt of goods or services through illegal use of a credit card, five counts of sixth-degree larceny, interfering with an officer, and conspiracy to commit sixth-degree larceny.
John H. Thomas, 27, was charged with five counts of possession of a forged credit card, two counts of unlawful use of a credit card, two counts of attempt to commit sixth-degree larceny, interfering with an officer and conspiracy to commit sixth-degree larceny. Both men posted $20,000 bonds and will appear in court Sept. 16.
Police received a report around 6:15 p.m., Saturday, Sept. 6, that two men were at CVS attempting to make purchases with a fraudulent credit card. After the managers declined one of the transactions, both men left the store and fled on foot towards Old Kings Highway South, police said. An officer spotted the two walking near 51 Tokeneke Road and as he approached, both men fled toward the Darien train station and boarded a parked transit bus in an attempt to conceal themselves, according to police reports.
Officers moved in, and the two attempted to flee again, according to police. One was quickly taken into custody on the westbound platform of the train station, and the other was taken into custody in nearby Tilley Pond Park. Neither were injured during the incident, police said.
Police said they searched the area and found numerous fraudulent credit cards that the two had discarded during the pursuit. They also found more than $800 in fraudulently purchased department store gift cards that had also been discarded, according to police.
