At around 1:15 a.m. on Saturday police responded to the area of Silver Lakes Drive on a noise complaint. When they arrived they saw several people talking loudly in front of a home and other teens running from the house into a wooded area, police said. Officers saw empty beer cans on the garage floor, with tables set up that held beer cans and other alcoholic beverages, according to police reports.
The home is adjacent to Metro-North tracks, and because the teens ran into the woods towards the tracks, the MTA was contacted and all train traffic was temporarily halted, police said. Officers did find several teens in the woods and returned them to the house, and the hold on train traffic was lifted, according to police.
The parents of the host told police that they knew their child was having friends over for a party, but they said they did not know about any alcohol consumption, police said. They said they were home for the duration of the party. They were issued misdemeanor summonses for permitting minors to illegally possess alcohol.
Six Darien and New Canaan teens who were 16 and 17 years old were turned over to their parents. At least one was visibly intoxicated, police said.
"The Darien Police Department again reminds residents that property owners and parents are responsible for what happens in their homes and on their property," police said. "Property owners and parents will be cited if they knew, or clearly should have known, that underage subjects were possessing alcohol in their home or on their property and they fail to take any and all reasonable steps to halt said possession."
