John Tyler Keegan, 22, was charged with illegal possession of prescription narcotics, possession of narcotics with intent to sell, possession of marijuana and possession of drug paraphernalia. He posted $5,000 bond and will appear in court July 14.
The charges stem from an incident on May 17, when police say Keegan was involved in a minor accident on Post Road near Weed's Landing. Keegan never stopped his car and left the scene of the accident, according to police.
An officer in the area was given a description of Keegan's car and spotted him driving east on Post Road, police said. The officer tried to pull Keegan over, but Keegan sped up and pulled off on a side street, police said.
The officer caught up to his car and discovered that Keegan had gotten into a second accident, according to police reports.
Keegan's car crossed into oncoming traffic on Goodwives River Road, left the road and hit a fence and a tree, police said. The car sustained heavy damage, and Keegan was taken into custody on various motor vehicle charges, police said.
Keegan told police, "I hate cops" and admitted that he was trying to get away from the officer when he lost control of the car, according to police.
During the inventory of his car, police said they found narcotics and various items related to the sale of narcotics. The car was seized and a search warrant was executed, police said. Police said they found small quantities of marijuana and hash oil, as well as items to manufacture, smoke and vaporize them. Police also found 40 Xanax and Clonazepam pills inside a fake iPod.
A warrant was issued for Keegan's arrest, and he turned himself in to police Wednesday.
