On March 15, a resident of Knollwoood Lane let her bichone frise outside. When the dog did not return home, she looked for it, and found it dead on the lawn with four puncture wounds.

The dog was examined by a vet, who said that it was likely a coyote that killed the dog.

Detective Mark Cappelli of the Darien Police Department said this is the first case like this police have received this year, and said there should not be cause for alarm. He said that any residents who spot a coyote should call the animal control officer.

"We will be keeping track of the sightings and movement of the coyote, so if people see one they should call," Cappelli said.

He also advised that residents should not let small animals out alone, especially at night.

If you see a coyote, contact the Darien Animal Control Officer at 203-662-5345.
