Edith Clarke, 51, was charged with breach of peace. She was released on a promise to appear in court on July 22.

Police were called to Darien Social at 11: 26 p.m. on Thursday, July 9, on a complaint about a patron in the bar. Police spoke with employees, who said that they had gotten in a verbal argument with Clarke, who had been asked to leave and refused.

The bartender told officers that Clarke had been highly intoxicated and he had cut her off, police said. Clarke then became irate and began yelling profanities and derogatory names at the bartender, according to police reports. She then reached over the bar and grabbed the bartender's shirt, police said.

Police found Clarke outside in the rear of the building. She was uncooperative and was taken into custody, according to police. When they arrived at headquarters, Clarke said she believed that she had been refused service because she was with four African-American male friends, according to police reports.
