Officers stopped the 53-year-old man while he was driving his gray 1997 Nissan Sentra southbound on Hoyt Street near St. John Cemetery, police said. The car had a large crack in its windshield, police said.
The driver presented officers with an “International Driver’s License,” which he said he had purchased at a store in Stamford, police said.
Officers determined that the man did not have a valid driver’s license, nor was the vehicle insured, police said. The car was towed from the scene.
Officers also discovered an outstanding arrest warrant for the man issued by the Connecticut Environmental Conservation police on a charge of failure to respond to an infraction. This warrant had been issued Nov. 7. The initial charge was “violation of sport fishing” regulations, the man said that he thought he had paid.
For the traffic stop, the man was charged with operating a motor vehicle without a license, failure to insure a motor vehicle and failure to respond to an infraction. He was released on $150 cash bond for a court date of Aug. 15.
