One man is dead, and a 2-year-old boy hospitalized after being ejected from their vehicle in a horrific three-vehicle crash that shut down I-91 for several hours on Tuesday.

The crash was reported in Rocky Hill at approximately 9:45 a.m. Connecticut State Police troopers closed the interstate between exits 23 and 24 as they investigated the crash. The roadway was reopened at approximately 1:30 p.m. on Tuesday.

The fatal victim was identified by police as Middletown resident Benjamin Bidwell, 60. The boy’s name has not been released. He is currently being treated for his injuries at an area hospital. Daily Voice has learned his injuries are non-life threatening.

According to multiple reports, neighbors flooded a nearby overpass to view the damage following the crash. That stretch of I-91 between exits 23 and 24 has seen nearly 1,000 crashes in the past three years, according to the Connecticut Transportation Safety Research Center.
