The incident occurred Sunday afternoon when a woman went to the door of a Wyndover Lane residence saying she was with the water company and wanted to check his water meter and his gas meter, police said. The man said no and attempted to close the door, police said.

"The female pulled the door open anyway and let herself into the home, saying that she had to check the water," Sgt. Rhett Connolly said.

The woman began talking fast and persuaded the man to go to the basement, where the water heater is located police said. She then ran back upstairs and let a man in the home, police said.

The homeowner then ran back upstairs, yelled at the couple and pushed them out the door, police said.

"The woman said, 'You can't push us,' and he got them out and shut the door," Connolly said.

Police said the couple fled in a vehicle but had no detailed description of the pair.
