Darien Ultra-Conservative Party Seeks Selectmen Candidates

DARIEN, Conn. – Do you believe future taxes in Darien should be capped at 2.5 percent? Or that the “education monopoly” should be dismantled so Darien “can afford to have more teachers and offer more classes.” Or maybe Darien should not allow residents to blow their yard debris “into public roads.” Then the Darien Ultra-Conservative Party wants you to run for office.

Chris Noe and the Darien Ultra-Conservative Party are looking for Selectmen candidates who share the party's philosophy.

The brainchild of Chris Noe, who ran unsuccessfully for first selectman in 2011, the party is designed for residents who might find Democrats too liberal and Republicans too moderate.

“The Darien Ultra-Conservative Party holds dear the quality of life in Darien,” Noe said in a statement. “Their goal is to maintain what we have and move forward controlling tax increases, promoting public safety, education and environmental solutions.”

Noe is running for the first selectman post again, and he is looking for candidates to run for the two seats that are up for election in November.

“Candidates must be a resident of Darien and agree with Ultra-Conservative platform,” he said.

If elected, Noe pledges to not take the first selectman’s annual salary of about $80,000 and would instead accept only $1 per year.

Also in his party’s platform is the building of sidewalks in Darien, “irregardless of cost,” and he would make allowing “streets with higher speed limits” a priority.

Among Noe’s other positions are building an Olympic-size pool and a sports stadium at Darien High School, eliminating “Gun Free Zones” and allowing firefighters to carry firearms.
