Long Island Woman Charged With DWI After Crashing Into Parked Cars, Police Say

A woman leaped from a moving car operated by an allegedly drunk driver who struck several parked cars during an early morning incident on Long Island.

Long Beach resident Madeline Benegas, 49, was driving a 2017 Nissan Rogue with a 24-year-old person shortly before 5:30 a.m. on Sunday, Nov. 24 in Baldwin, Nassau County Police said. While Benegas was driving, she struck multiple parked cars on Cherrywood Drive and Milburn Avenue.

According to police, Benegas’ passenger “in fear of her safety jumped from the car and contacted police. 

Officers located the Benegas in front of Northern Boulevard and she was stopped. During the traffic stop, it was determined that Benegas was allegedly intoxicated and she was arrested without further incident.

No injuries were reported.

Benegas was charged with DWI, reckless endangerment and seven counts of leaving the scene of an accident with property damage. She was scheduled to be arraigned in First District Court in Hempstead on Monday, Nov. 25.
