Darien High School Named Among Best In U.S.

DARIEN, Conn. -- Darien High School was named the 483rd best high school in the country by U.S. News and World Report in its annual ranking of high schools Tuesday. It was also named the 11th best in the state.

U.S. News and World Report enlisted the help of social science research firm RTI International to compile its rankings. They measured schools using four key metrics:

  • Math and reading proficiency for all students
  • Testing proficiency for disadvantaged students
  • Graduation rates
  • College readiness via Advanced Placement or International Baccalaureate test data.

Darien boasts a student-to-teacher ratio of 12:1 and has 59 percent of the student body participating in AP exams. 

There were 14 other high schools in Fairfield County named to the Connecticut list:

  • Weston High School (No. 4) 
  • Ridgefield High School (No. 5) 
  • Wilton High School (No. 7)
  • Greenwich High School (No. 10)
  • Staples High School (Westport) (No. 14)
  • Joel Barlow High School (Redding) (No. 15)
  • Fairfield Ludlowe High School (No. 16)
  • New Canaan High School (No. 17) 
  • Fairfield Warde High School (No. 18)
  • Brookfield High School (No. 25)
  • The Academy of Information Technology (Stamford) (No. 28)
  • Masuk High School (Monroe) (No. 34)
  • Westhill High School (Stamford) (No. 35)
  • Brien McMahon High School (Norwalk) (No. 42)
